Katie completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Marywood University and obtained her Master’s Degree from Caldwell University in Mental Health Counseling. Katie also completed training with RWJ Barnabas Health in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy with a concentration in Art Therapy.
Katie has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, seniors and families in a hospital setting. Katie utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques and theoretical orientations as she believes each client has different needs. Katie has experience working with families coping with chronic illness, bereavement, and adults living with addiction. Additionally, Katie has worked with clients with anxiety, depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder and self-harming behavior.
As a Registered Art Therapist, Katie is able to fuse together the use of art within the therapeutic work with her clients of all ages. Becoming a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) requires the completion of qualifying master’s level education (including art therapy core curriculum, supervised practicum, and internship experiences), post-education supervised clinical experience, and references.
Katie is a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Art Therapy Association. Katie is currently receiving additional supervision to become a Registered Art Therapist.
Art Therapy – Katie believes in incorporating art therapy into sessions with clients who express interest as she understands there are times when words are simply not enough. Katie incorporates art therapy into sessions to assist with mindfulness, emotion regulation, creative expression, and coping with grief.
